Sweetpea

Sweet Pea arrived at our rescue today! She is a very sweet girl and just to look at her it would be hard to guess that she is almost 30! She is 27 and look'n good.

Placer County Animal Control found her abandoned and emaciated, they've done a great job in recovering her health and getting her looking so great. She really enjoyed running around our 20 acre pasture and rolling in the mud. She'll be available for adoption for 1 month and if no one chooses to adopt her she will be placed into our retirement program. She is a very sweet girl and has a lot to offer so please consider giving her a home!

Retirement Program

Our retirement went "live" today thanks to the hard work of our office people. With 5 horses in the retirement / rehab program, we could really use your help to feed, grain, suppliment, and care for these awesome older horses. Check it out, click here!

A new rescue effort is starting over at feeedlothorses.com.

There are 9 horses (2 studs and 7 broodmares) that a breeder is planning on taking to slaughter march 15th! He has decided to stop breeding horses and stick with cattle. Since he only lives 1 1/2 hours from the new horse slaughterhouse, Natural Valley Farms Inc. in Canada. It will be very convenient for him to make the short trip over the border into Canada and get top dollar for his horses. We can save these horses and transfer them to other rescues that can adopt them into loving homes, but We Can't Do This Without You!

We are still working on placement so we don't know what the transporting will be yet. We will add the transporting funds needed as soon as we know.

Web Work

We've updated and given a new look to our special rescue story page. Every horse we rescue is so special, but these have touched our hearts and our camera and we would love to share them with you. To visit our updated page, click here. There are 12 equines on there that you can read all about.

Got a nice update from Charlie Boy's owner. He is doing absolutely great! They love him so much. "He is an absolute angel to be around! He rides great and is eager to please...He also just loves to be loved on!! He has truly brought so much joy to my life!!! He is healthy and happy!!" Way to go, it's great to have found him the perfect home. Charlie Boy was the skinniest horse we've ever had on our ranch, it's so great to see a horse that was so close to death brought back and enjoying life once again. Below is a picture of Charlie with his owner, and below that is a picture of Charlie when he first came to our ranch.

We got a couple t-shirts and a hat from our new store, and we are pleased with the quality. We'll model them soon and post some pictures.

Lots of Adoption Pendings and Safe Mares!

Today was a great day! 4 equines were placed into adoption pending. Eva should be going to a great home as soon as they are approved to adopt. They drove up yesterday, spent the night in Marysville and came out to meet her today and fell in love! It really looks like a perfect match. Snowman, Snowdrift and Angus were placed into adoption pending status today, they will be going to Personal Pony's LTD in Nevada to be used for kids therapy. So far this year therapy facilities have been our biggest homes for equines and what a great match!

The pregnant mares bail and transport was raised today. It is so great to have another succesful rescue! They will be on their way to Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue. This makes 38 horses rescued so far this year.

Lloyd Cooper gave us an update on the horses he adopted, and they are all doing very well. He is thrilled with the way they are all settling in and joining up with kids that need the special help only a horsy friend can give. It is so neat seeing our rescued horses helping people in need, just like Mya, who will be on Animal Planet in April.

Sunday/Monday

Sunday was a downright miserable rainy day so there was no volunteers out that day. Jason got bookwork done and Tawnee worked on the website. Maintaining a large non-profit requires so many hours of non-glamorous work, but it must be done!
Monday we spoke with Placer County Animal Control and we arranged for Sweetpea to come on Friday morning. We will place her for adoption for 1 month, and if she hasn't found a home she will be moved permanently into the retirement program.
The donations started coming in today for the current feedlot rescue and now there is only $434 left to raise. This is so great!

The retirement / rehab program page is almost done and will online within the next couple days. We hope and pray that this program will work and be very successful. In the last 5 years of rescuing we have seen a huge need for a retirement program for horses but have been unable to fund such a huge endeavor. We are hoping that you will step forward and sponsor a retired horse in need!

Friday

Sweatpea got two sponsors today, so she is going to be coming home! She will be possibly available for adoption when we evaluate her, as we have adopted many older equines into loving forever homes, but we would like to thank her two sponsors for signing up to support her! Animcal Control sounded so relieved and happy on the phone, they are actually doing something an Animal Control office has never done before and are actually planning on transporting her to our ranch. Thanks!

Have a great weekend!

Wednesday / Thursday

The funds have been raised for the 7 horses! They are being transfered to Hooves of Hope, Valley View Ranch Equine Rescue and some are still pending transfer, but have been moved to safety at one of our foster homes.
With the last feedlot rescue safe, we are moving on to our next feedlot rescue. Yes that is right, there are 3 pregnant mares at the same feedlot that will be slaughtered if we don't do our part to help! This feedlot sends the pregnant mares to Mexico as the Canadian slaughterhouse doesn't want to deal with the "by product," the babies... We must save them and their unborn babies. The total to save their lives and transport them to safety is only $2,515.00. We have until Friday the 29th to save them or...

The horses in the new retirement program are doing great and enjoying their new life there. We are hoping and praying that this new program will work. Today we got a call from Placer County Animal Control - Auburn CA. They have a horse there they have had since May of 07 and can't find her a home so they asked us if we could take her. We told them about our new program and if we can find some sponsors for her we would be able to take her. She is a sweet mare that is 27 years old. Their vet says that she is in great shape for her age. If you would be interested in sponsoring for only $25.00 a month please let us now ASAP. We need at least 4 committed sponsors for us to be able to provide this mare with the wonderful retirement she deserves.

Happy Tails!
Pansy "Shelbe" was a young filly we rescued from the feedlot back in October of 07. She was adopted into a wonderful home and is doing great! You can go to their website and see pictures of her by clicking here.

You can watch her rescue along with 19 other horses rescued from the feedlot on Youtube by clicking here.

Tueday the 19th

Today we prepared for the next big rain storm that is coming. Hay had to be covered, tools put away, etc. We started a trial run for a retirement program today. We have placed 5 horses into this program: Christy, Timmy, Pilgrim, Bessie and Cooper. We have use of a 32 acre pasture where these horses would live out their healthly lives in happiness. We hauled three of them up there today. It is only about 15 minutes away from our main ranch. Thank you Eric and Jennifer! They will be the care givers for these retired horses. We are working on updating our website to add our retirement program. Horses that are in the retirement program will needs sponsors to help with their special medical and feed needs. This is a trial run, up to this point NER has not been a retirement center, but if the support is there, we will be able to bring in an extremely limited number of horses for retirement. We'll see how it goes...

Monday the 18th

Today we had 2 more adoptions! Now we only have 25 equines in our rescue that are needing homes. We still are more than full and need to find great forever homes for our rescued equines, so spread the word!
Scruffy got his new home today. He is really going back to his foster home forever. They had brought him back down to our rescue so it would be easier for him to be adopted, but when it sunk in that he was gone and was most likely going to be adopted soon they just had to take him back home forever.

Lloyed came back for his dream horse today. Lloyed is the perfect home for Jericho, as a hollywood horses trainer he will be able to work with Jericho with his bad behavior. With loving training Jericho will be a well behaved gentleman soon!
Lloyed was very happy to report that Bugsy, Brownies, Veevee and Snowstorm are doing great in their new ranch. They will be getting their makeovers very soon! Veevee is going to be meeting his theraputic partner tomorrow, and we hope to have a report very soon about their progress as a team.

Only $681 left to raise for the latest group of 7 feedlot horses! We are almost to the goal of raising $6180. That is the total price for these horse's bail for life. With these horses almost to safety, it will make 35 equines saved this year by NER! Pray that there will be many more... We saved 234 equines last year. Let save more then that this year!

Sunday the 17th

Wow, today was a very very busy day! We had over 30 people out to see the horses and their were 6 adopted to approved adopters.
Deb came out to work with horses today. She worked with Snowball and finally was able to get a halter on her and was able to groom her. She also worked with many other horses and helped out with all the visitors.

Isabel's adopters was approved to adopt last week and came to take her home today. They decided to adopt Snowball as well!

We had 3 new volunteers come out today. They were a great help with everything from cleaning stalls, fixing, cleaning up and painting NER outhouse, riding the horses, shoveling manure and were always ready to lend a helping hand anywhere needed. They hope to come out next Sunday too! We need more volunteers like them! They found out about NER from the article the Apeal-Democrat ran. A big thank you goes to Melainea, Larry and Diana for their hard work today!

Lloyed, a hollywood horse trainer, has recently founded a thearaputic riding school for troubled kids and he needed some great older kid friendly horses to introduce to the kids. Bugsy, Brownies, Veevee and Snowstorm were adopted today. Lloyed plans to come back tomorrow and pick up a horse he absolutely fell in love with: Jericho. Lloyed also does trick training so you may just see him at an NER events in the future showing off Slick, his trick horse. Slick is going to be featured in a movie soon. Lloyed was the horse trainer in Zoro and many more movies. It is so neat he is putting rescued horses and rescued kids together to help each other.
A lot more happened, but we are too tired to type another word. There'll be more tomorrow...

Thursday and Friday

Thursday was a fairly uneventful day. Have a lot of adoption applications coming in so hopefully some of the 30+ equines we have available will be going to their new homes soon. Jason had to fix the radiator on the quad, it had a hole punched in it while working on the fencing and it's finally fixed. The quad is an absolutely invaluable tool that is used 7 days a week feeding. 4 more horses were added to the current feedlot rescue effort, let's hope the funds are raised very soon and they can go home!

Friday was a great day, phone calls were made, emails were written, a new item was added to our online store. When people buy things, it really does make a huge difference. We just got another check for $63 from Country Supply. All you have to do is enter our care code, savethehorse, when you're checking out there and they donate a full 5% of the order. This clock is so cute isn't it? Mo was rescued back in 2006, his mommy (with him tucked inside) was in our very first feedlot rescue. Hundreds of horses rescued from that horrible place later, he is still doing great! $13 you can have the classiest clock around and help out others like Mo.

Ben was adopted and transported to his new home today. He is going to be spoiled and loved and taken on lots of rides in the country. Thanks for giving him a great home ladies! Ben was saved the day of the Roseville Livestock Auction. If they had not let us back in, where would he be?

Website and More Hay

Today was pretty busy, Tawnee spent most of the day updating each and every horse on Petfinder for a new look and updating their information. Now each horse has a more accurate and complete discription along with current adoption fees. Hopefully some horses start being adopted into loving forever homes!

Jason got another giant load of hay which will last a couple weeks. 90 bales of good grass alfalfa for $1080 plus fuel. The hay prices combined with slow adoptions mean we really need you to help us out! We desperately need hay sponsors, please consider becoming one even if it's only 1 bale a month. So far this month we have spent $2160 in just hay! That is a lot of money any way you think about it.

Monday and Tuesday

Monday the funds were raised to save and transport the 6 horses off the feedlot. It is wonderful that 6 more have been saved from a sure death of being slaughtered. Thanks to you, this has become a reality. The three TB's are going to Shiloh in Las Vegas, Kixie and Coolie went to Personal Ponies LTD, Delanah has been placed in a foster home until she is strong enough to make the trip to a rescue. Jason wrote many emails Monday and actually caught up. Monday night our power was off so we were unable to update that the funds had been raisd. We apologize for any inconvenience that PG&E have caused you!

Today potential adopters came out and fell in love with Isabell and have placed an adoption hold on her. As soon as they are approved for adoption she'll be on her way to a new loving home! She was rescued from the feedlot on 1-18-08. It is so rewarding seeing horses that are considered "unwanted" and doomed to death finding a new lease on life.

There is a new feedlot rescue started today, three horses are starting this rescue off possibly with more coming. We don't know when they are planning on shipping them to slaughter yet so we don't have a deadline. Let's ruin their plans and save them, if you can help click here!

We've added our blog to our homepage on our website so our website content will always be updated with the latest news. This will make keeping everyone informed much easier and quicker for our staff so we can spend more time with the equines.

The Apeal-Democrat ran an article about us over the weekend. They mostly got their facts straight, but Baloo the blind horse needs a home, he is available for adoption. He is such the sweetheart too. We are so grateful that the newspaper was willing to help generate support and understanding among the general public about the plight of horses everywhere. To read the article click here.

Sunday the 10th

Today was a great day, we were able to get a lot done that has been delayed for some time. First of all, Saturday night we were able to watch the premeir Petfinder TV show on Animal Planet. It was great to see the first show and see a clip of Mya in the intro. Now one of our rescued horses has been seen on national TV. Keep your eyes peeled for the April 5th showing of Mya. And do watch all the other shows too, they all feature homeless animals finding their forever homes.

Sunday morning Jason was able to finally get the grooming stand installed. It is really nice to finally have a place to secure horses for trimming, grooming, vaccinations, bathing, shots, vet exams, etc. Thanks to the Claire Gianini fund for providing the financial resources to purchase this much needed improvement!

Deb our trainer was able came down about 11:00 to start evaluating horses again. She (and her husband) brought Sheena and Scruffy down as they had been fostering and working with them. Deb got a lot of horses evaluated and her updates should be on our website (powered by Petfinder) soon! Sheena and Scruffy were so happy to get into the 20 acre pasture they ran and ran all over it! For at least 2 hours they were running this way and that off and on. It is so good to see healthy horses really enjoying life and liberty.

We had a new volunteer come out Sunday afternoon and help out. Thanks Taylor! Hopefully we will see a lot more of you soon, you were a great help.

We had a potential adopter come out and look at horses, we don't have the perfect match for them at this time but hopefully soon.

Moving Horses.

We needed to go to the leased pasture today. They were out of hay so we needed to get more out to them.

We also had an appointment with a 13 year old girl who wanted to interview us about horse rescue. She came from about two and a half hours away for this interview.

When we got there we loaded Red Fern into our trailer to bring her back to our rescue so Deb could evaluate her to see if she is trained to ride.

Then we had to put Ximen, Vayu & Ace into a holding pen as the transporter was coming to take them to Mustang-Spirit. As that was happing the girl came for the interview. Tawnee had the interview with her. She is planning on doing a presentation at her school and pony club on horse abuse. It's neat to see young people out there wanting to make a difference!

A trip to Pregnant Mare Rescue

Today we left our rescue at 8:00 AM and headed out for Pregnant Mare Rescue. In our trailer we had Naveda, Patriot's Magic (mare & foal saved from the feedlot on 12-3-07) and Phoebe a pregnant mare saved from the feedlot on 1-18-08. Naveda and Patriot's Magic came to NER in December, Patriot's Magic was sick so he went into quarantine and with all the bad weather in January we finaly were able to move them down. PMR also took Phoebe into their rescue to help lighten the load on our rescue since we have so many horses.

It was great to see Rose (the sorrel) again, she was in our very first group of horses rescued from the feedlot back on 22nd of March, 2006. She was the every first pregnant mare that Lynn took in as a rescue and today they're a great rescue called Pregnant Mare Rescue. A big thank goes to Lynn for adopting Rose, seeing the need, and making solutions for some lucky pregnant mares and foals out there!

This is a picture of Rose right after she arrived at our rescue from the feedlot on 22nd of March, 2006.

It was a long day in the truck we got back to our rescue about 9:00 PM.

Horse Evaluations and 6 Saved!

Today Deb came out to work with the horses. It was a great day with no rain finally! It was really sunny!! With all the horses in the rescue, Deb will be coming out once a week to evaluate, ride or what ever is needed around the rescue. This is going to be a great help, with so many horses we have not had the time to evaluate or ride them, just care for them. We can not thank Dab enough for all her hard work she has put into the rescue in the passed and now even more for the horses!

We raised the money to save 6 more of the feedlot horses from slaughter today! Now we must raise the transporting cost ASAP and get them moved off the feedlot and to saftey.

Tada & Rainy are adopted!

The day started in a rush as we had an appointment at 9:00 for Tada & Rainy to be adopted at our leased pasture that is about 20 miles from are main rescue facility. We rushed out there and no one was there so we called them and they were still almost 100 miles away. So we headed back to our main facility, the hay needed to be unloaded.

They called about 12:00 and said they were there. Jason headed back to the leased pasture for the adoptions.

Now Tada & Rainy have been adopted into a loving home together!

Perfinder TV & More

We talked with Robin Acutt, one of the Petfinder producers; he wanted more info on Mya. We asked if he know when the Mya show is airing and he said that it should be on April 5th! It is not going to be the premiering show, but patience is a virtue. We have seen little clips of it here and there. Today we were logging into our Petfinder account and there was Mya! There’s a little video clip from the show on there right now, not sure how long it will be there, but it is there today – Click here to see it. We can also see her in the Petfinder preview, by click here. Today we a new current feedlot rescue!
There are 3 horses at a Nevada feedlot that will be slaughtered if we don't do our part to help! The semi truck will be coming for them to take them to slaughter on Wednesday (2-6-08) if the funds are not raised to save them. Please Help Them! We Can't Do This With Out You! More Hay...
Today was nice and sunny and we were able to use the flatbed to get more hay for the horses. We got 90 bales and it costs us $1,080 that's $12.00 a bale! It will only last us 18 days! We really need more hay sponsors or we will be forced to rescue less horses. By the time we where back at our ranch it was after dark.

The Website is Updated Again!

Today NER staff worked on getting our website updated.
The side Menu bar is now updated with links to our Feedlot website, this blog, and a link to our New online store!!!

We also worked on getting our staff page updated. Now you can learn about some of the people behind NER, staff, BOD, volunteers and more. Click Here to go to the NER Staff page.
We also have a new look for the available equine page. It is powered by Petfinder.com and it cuts out a lot of time having to update our website, making pages for each of the horses and then updating Petfinder too. Now all we have to do is update Petfinder with the horses and it’s automatically updated on our website too. We love it!
Our new online store has many neat things for all you horse lovers out there, if the store does good there will be more and more things available. Right now we have apparel, gifts, hats, bags, stickers, buttons, magnets, and more!
Best of all it is not going to take time from the horses, as the items will be drop shipped. When you order some items, the company (Cafepress) will make the item and ship it to you and we will never have to handle the item. You will get it extremely quickly and the horses will benefit from your purchase! Now you can buy & help save lives! Click here to go to the NER Store.
Tawnee showed Brownie to a potential adopter today. With all the horses we have available right now we really need to get them adopted into homes. Let’s hope Brownie gets a home soon!

Newspaper Interview

The Appeal-Democrat came out and interviewed Jason and Tawnee Preisner, the founders of NER, and volunteers Teresa Russell, Annett and Kimmy Orozco. They plan on doing a story about our trip to LA with Mya for the Animal Planet - Petfinder show and about what NER does with the rescued horses. The interviewer Nancy enjoyed meeting a lot of the horses and fell in love with Dottie.NER Staff also worked on getting an online store up. Soon you can buy NER stuff and support NER at the same time!
